Prior to playing in the American Basketball League, Romanoff played amateur basketball with the Wichita Vickers,
San Francisco Olympic Club and San Francisco Investors of the National Industrial Basketball League (NIBL) &
Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). 
 
Romanoff was originally signed by the Los Angeles Jets of the ABL but was traded to the Cleveland Pipers for 
Bill Spivey and Hank Whitney. He was a member of the 1962 ABL League Champions. Romanoff played for the Oakland Oaks
the following season before the league folded.
